PdD Building Design award winning Malua Bay eco office

PdD Building Design Office

PdD building design is located in Malua Bay in our very own award winning small scale project. Paul Dolphin and Kiri Wright designed the office as a mixed use detached addition to the award wining Solar Passive Dromhus Eco House.

The office is solar passive, and serves as both a design studio, music studio and granny flat.

Solar shading

The orange screens are used on the East and West of the building as very effective solar shading. They allow light through and connection with the street while keep the building cool without the need for active heating or cooling. If you want to know more about how to design a solar passive house please sign up to our free webinar.

The floor is a collage of architectural design from architects and building designers stretching back over the last few hundred years. The floor is used as a reference in client meetings when building styles and materials can be discussed and pointed out from the collage. See here for more info on Australian Architects and styles of architects. The external cladding is simple fibro sheeting from James Hardie referencing the South Coast beach shack style but used in a contemporary design.

Granny Flat Design
The office is designed with a plan that could also be used as a granny flat. It has a wall bed and ensuite tucked away. The flexible design adds value and flexibility of use to the space. The office space recently won a commendation in the 2020 Building Design Awards for 'Best Small Scale Projects up to $100,000' and was a finalist in 'Best Commercial Buildings'. You can read more about the awards here. The office was built by Peter Jirgens.
