The team here at PdD Building Design has been working closely with Sue Melotte, the owner of Moruya Artisan Factory in Moruya, on an exciting heritage restoration project. This initiative not only preserves a significant piece of local history but also brings new life and purpose to the site which has for many years sat unutilised.

Moruya Artisan Factory is a remarkable heritage building with deep roots in the region.

Originally the Moruya Cheese Co-op, it played an important role in the South Coast’s agricultural and dairy industry. For decades, it was a hub of local production and community activity. Sue’s vision is to honour this history while adapting the space for the modern era, including reviving cheese production, adding a microbrewery, and creating an artisan food and drink outlet that showcases local produce.

Our team at PdD Building Design has been responsible for producing the floor plans, detailed building design, and heritage planning documentation required for development approval. Every decision balances heritage conservation with functional, contemporary design, ensuring that the building’s character is preserved while supporting its new uses.

PdD Building Design are accredited building designers with expertise in heritage building renovation, sustainable architecture, and planning approvals. We guide clients through complex heritage regulations with practical, thoughtful, and creative solutions, ensuring every project respects its history while meeting modern functional and design needs.

For Moruya Artisan Factory, this has included producing floor plans, detailed building design, and heritage planning documentation that balance the building’s character with its new purpose.

Moruya Artisan Factory is a great example of how thoughtful heritage restoration and adaptive reuse can preserve local history, create opportunities for small businesses, and transform old buildings into vibrant, functional spaces that serve the community and are perfectly fit for purpose.
