Moruya Rural Eco House Design

Rural Tree change sustainable house design

This floor plan was drafted up by PdD Building Design for Green Homes South East. The project is in Moruya on a rural block and the client specified an eco house design. Another way of describing an eco house is a green house design, a sustainable house or a low energy house design.

One key way of designing a green house is by making the most of solar gain to create a solar passive house in winter. This sun is then shaded from entering the house in summer and it keeps it cool. The challenge comes when the house has great views to the South and so the client wants all the windows located there. This floor plan and building design was adapted form a Green Homes floor plan to accommodate the clients wishes of great views whilst also allowing for northern sun to enter the building.

The client was moving to Moruya for a rural tree change, and the block held a few planning issues in terms of bushfire design and biodiversity. Working with Green Homes and Eurobodalla Shire Council, PdD Building Design was able to secure planning approval and the house was built in a fantastic location. The house is also completely off grid with its own water tanks, septic system and standalone solar and batteries.
