Dalmeny Dream Home Design
This elegant Australian home design evolved through careful consideration of the site and close collaboration with the client. The somewhat steep battle-axe block enjoys a riparian bush reserve along its lower rear boundary and a favourable northern outlook to be maximised, while managing common privacy issues with immediate neighbours on other sides.
The dwelling is composed of pavilions linked across the site, each one basking in the northern aspect and solar-passive design. The limited materials palette reflects the eucalyptus hues of the bush setting and clean lines of the design are experienced upon arrival. The path to the entry is carved into the higher front boundary, framed by a simple and beautiful Austral Bricks' Hamptons in Whitehaven masonry wall. The embedded quality of this arrival crafts a strong connection to the site, which is enhanced by the continuation of the sleek brickwork on the hearth wall inside the central pavilion.
Moving into the house, the beautiful outlook is revealed with large glazing elements framing the bush outlook as the topography falls away. A generous hardwood deck extends the living space toward the riparian reserve, engaging with the broader site. Off to one side, a long window with bench seat forms one side of a passage, creating a dynamic threshold space between the deck and main house. This passage connects to the eastern pavilion with main bedroom suite, and discreetly houses the study and laundry along its other side.
Additional bedrooms, bathroom and second living area form the third pavilion on the western side. A private entrance and outdoor area complete this guest wing, which connects effortlessly to the main house but can be closed off when not in use.
