Beach House Design Malua Bay
Transforming a 1970s Asbestos Home into an Family Friendly Coastal Haven
What can you do with a 1970s house full of asbestos, sitting on a prime coastal block in Mosquito Bay, Malua Bay? Our clients engaged PdD to both design and manage the Development Application (DA) for a complete set of new plans for this renovation project.
This coastal home renovation has completely reimagined the property, turning a dated asbestos-laden house into a modern, stylish retreat. The redesign would easily feature in Grand Designs Magazine thanks to its combination of functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. By embracing eco-friendly materials and thoughtful design, the renovation ensures long-term durability while minimizing environmental impact.
The redesigned floor plan positions the master bedroom to maximize natural light and ocean views. From the bedroom, you can see through the living room and a corner stacker door that opens onto a deck overlooking the water. Dolphins, whales, and the occasional sea snake can be spotted from the comfort of the home, making it a truly immersive coastal experience.
The clients took on almost all of the renovation work themselves, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. The internal and external finishes, along with the careful selection of materials, reflect high-quality design principles and a commitment to sustainable living. The property’s landscaping enhances its natural surroundings, with a deck oriented to fully capture ocean views, creating a seamless connection with the beachside location.
